Ilham Aliyev: The Organization of Turkic States currently has great potential. Azerbaijan has always been committed to strengthening this organization. It began its activities as a kind of advisory group, council, group of countries, and then transformed. It has great potential.
Ilham Aliyev: We have supported and continue to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine from the first days of Russia's intervention in Ukraine.
Ilham Aliyev: There have been many rumors in some media outlets and on some websites about Azerbaijan's plans to occupy Zangezur and cut the border between Iran and Armenia. This is completely false. We have no such intention. In any case, if we wanted to do it, we would have done it. It was very easy to do it in November 2020. It was very easy to do it over the past five years. It's only 40 kilometers, it wouldn't take much time from a military point of view. You just come and take it from both sides - from Nakhchivan and from this side of Azerbaijan.
Ilham Aliyev: After the collapse of the Russian Empire in 1917, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was established. It was the first democratic republic in the Muslim world, established in May 1918. However, it existed only until April 1920 - at that time the Russian army entered Azerbaijan and occupied it. The Bolsheviks who made the revolution in 1917 made false promises to the people. There were slogans: "factories for workers, land for peasants, freedom for the people". We established our own state, but the Bolsheviks took this state from us. In April 1920, the Russian army entered Azerbaijan and occupied it. Just a few months later - in November of that year, the government of Soviet Russia decided to take Zangezur - the territory we call "Western Zangezur" - from Azerbaijan and give it to Armenia. Thus, Azerbaijan was divided into two parts: the main part and Nakhchivan.
